Eliot Bethke

Currenly a PhD candidate at UIUC bioengineering with a focus in computational methods in education, advised by Jenny Amos, PhD in the Amos Research Lab. My research focuses on novel applications of qualitative and quantitative methods to align multimodal data to measurable outcomes. To do this, I'm employing methods in data mining, natural language processing, thematic analysis, grounded theory analysis, and more.

Research Interests

I'm fascinated by questions about how we make sense of knowledge and the ways that we process information. In particular, I enjoy exploring computational appraoches to better understand how information and knowledge are received by learners. I use a blend of qualitative and quantitative methods, and enjoy finding ways to enhance insights through data visualization. Past and current projects have explored ideas around how audio and video stimuli are interpreted by healthcare professionals, specifically around their mental models and decision making. I also regularly apply my understanding of natural language processing and data visualization to show patterns and trends present in academic cohorts to drive targeted and timely improvements to undergraduate courses.
